You Can Design Your Own Bedroom

You don't have to be an interior designer to design your own bedroom - a little bit of creativity and some good magazines can work wonders!

If you've never had a flair for decorating or never even tried, you might want to check out these tips. Maybe you will discover a new talent you didn't know you had!

One important thing to think about when you design your own bedroom is the placement of your furniture. What pieces should you have? Where should you put them? Of course, you can physically arrange and rearrange but that's rather exhausting so you may want to consider a virtual design tool. You can use it to move your bedroom furniture around online!

When designing your own bedroom, it's pretty important to have a plan - a color scheme and an idea of what types of items you want or a theme for the room. The more specific you are the better. Take some time to sit down and plan out what you want on paper. This way you will know exactly what to buy and won't waste time and money running around picking up stuff that doesn’t fit. It can be costly to change your mind mid design so don’t skip this step.

But what if you know you want a new look, but have no idea what that look should be?

One way to design your own bedroom and still have a professional look is to pick a bedroom from a book or magazine. Look through the books until you find a bedroom that you want yours to look like. Don't get scared off if the room itself doesn't match yours exactly - look at the furniture, bedding, flooring and accents and if this is the look you want then you have a pretty good foundation on which to start your new design.

Next, you need to paint (or wallpaper) and simulate any wall coverings or designs, buy flooring to match and get bedding, accessories and window treatments similar to that in the photo. Of course, when you design your own bedroom this way, you probably won't be able to find exact matches but if you keep scale, color and texture in mind when purchasing the items you will be able to get a look that is pretty close.

Even if you are on a budget you can still design your own bedroom! Shop at flea markets, garage sales, and your local consignment stores for the items on your list. You can even find wall art a furniture that you may not be able to get in the stores. It takes a bit more leg work and you may have to wait longer to find that perfect piece, but you will save tons of money and get great satisfaction from your thrifty new bedroom design!
